Puerto Banús

The Marina Jose Banus, situated in the area known as Nueva Andalucia, to thewest of Marbella and close to another nucleus of Marbella called San Pedro de Alcantara, was inaugurated in May 1970. Since its first steps it won the the gold Medal for Touristic Merit and the Gold Mercury International Award for its work in favour of development and economic , cultural and social cooperation. It installations were built following the criteria of “Marinas”. Among its tecnical characteristics, highlights the 915 berths for boats up to 50 meters with a máximum keel of 6 meters, nearly a thousand can be moored in its more than 10 hectares of protected docks.
The port was created in the seventies and like any other holiday centre, Puerto Banus can also offer you a Casino, wide shopping facilities, the pleasure of the multicines and the possibilities of night and day shows.
This tourist enclave has become, since its birth 37 years ago, the major entertainment centre of the Costa del Sol and, according to the Marbella Town Hall , Puerto Banus is visited annually by nearly 5 million people. Its exceptional geographical location as well as the visit of numerous popular celebrities make it an attractive summer destination, especially nocturnal. The town also has a Spanish flavor, with a bullring which is used on Saturdays as a street market particularly popular amongst the foreigners. Jose Banus was the most important Promotor of touristic residential complexes in the Costa del Sol . A close friend of Francisco Franco, he was known as the constructor of the Regime.

Marbella
Marbella , a marvelous city situated in the heart of the Costa del Sol . Its origins date back to 1.600 years B.C. it was founded by the Romans with the name of “Salduba” and was situated in the “Via Augusta ”. In the year 711, the moors landed in Spain conquering part of the Iberian Pennisnular. Under the Muslim rule, Marbella became a prosperous city and was named “Marbi-la”. The city's architecture still keeps an Arab-Mediterranean style. In 1485 The Catholic Monarchs entered the city, and it suffered a change to Castilian style. It is believed that its present name Marbella dates back to that era. Across its history, Marbella has become a magnificent city which offers its visitors a typical Andalusian flavor, with its narrow streets, bright whitewashed houses squares adorned with flowers, all this together with the warm blue of the Mediterranean Sea.
Once a small white fishing town, today, Marbella is one of the most cosmopolitan places of the Costa del Sol, with the most famous leisure port in the Mediterranean, Puerto Banus, where the most famous and legendary yachts have been moored. This jet-set centre, residence or holiday place of princes, millionaires or show business personalities, is presented as a clean, safe, and looked after town with beautiful boulevards, parks and gardens. Its historical center has a Moorish /Andaluz flavor with its narrow lanes adorned by flowers and perfumed by orange blossom.

Marbella is close to large urban areas and focal point of ancient cultures: Malaga, Granada, Seville ; it almost borders with Africa via the port of Algeciras . It is a perfectly communicated city, by road, by air ( Malaga and Gibraltar airports) or by sea from its prestigious leisure ports.
Because of its geographical situation and the mountains that surround it, Marbella enjoys a special micro climate, with mild temperatures all year round, with no cold winters or suffocating summers; the annual average temperature is 19 c., the sun shines 320 days of the year, with less than 50 rainy days, mainly in the months of November and December, which , on the other hand, is very beneficial to maintain a good and varied vegetation.
